Knight Age

Knight Age is a very original game and one that I found myself playing over and over again for awhile. I was actually very familiar with Knight Age as it is a huge hit on the internet here in Asia. Even with my age, I am a huge fan of cartoons and not ashamed to admit it, which takes me to my next point about this game.

The graphics are super cool and I tip my hat to the Korean style developers who came up with this style and awesome graphics that looks as if it is a cel-shaded design, something most designers know is difficult to duplicate for animation action games. There are a lot of bright colors, which is always a good thing when generating cartoonish online PC games.

One thing that I found funny, interesting and just plain awesome all at once was how cool or how beautiful even the villains were in Knight Age. The bear looks like something off of your daughter’s shelf, just cute and cuddly, when in actuality, he is as evil as Jason Vorhees and destroys pretty much anything that crosses his road per say.

You have four different classes to choose from in this game to play as. You can play as the Knight, or main character of the game, The Magician, The Archer, or The Warrior. All of those characters are unique in their own ways as they each add something different to the table as far as technique is concerned.

The Knight carries weapons of combat, mainly fighting weapons so don’t expect to see any awesome guns or anything like that. Just good ole fashion “I’ll stab you in fifty different ways” kind of weapons. However, he has an extremely high attack mode, which is always a plus on any game where your life is on the line.

I found The Magician to be very fascinating and played with him probably the most. He can use his magic from a very long distance (who wouldn’t dig this again?) and he looks awesome, okay funny, but awesome nonetheless and I cannot put my finger on why I think he just looks awesome. Just one of those things you cannot explain, but more so have to see it to really get it here.  Archer is awesome as well and I played with him a couple of times. All he does is beat the crap out of someone with bows (bow and arrows for you unfamiliar newbies).

The Warrior is a different kind of guy though in that he damages pretty easily, which I would have thought to be unheard of for a warrior, but first time for everything. This game is very easy to navigate and very easy to control as the game play is simple to keep up with and control. Some critics pounced on this game for a lack of a good and imaginative story, but I don’t read that deeply into cool games that I enjoy (okay, once or twice), but it seems to be on par with the rest of the games on PC online that have this kind of average paced action theme to it. I

One of the best parts of the game comes when you have the little guys called “pupas” following you around helping you kick some enemy butt which makes for a much smoother ride throughout the game. One thing that I did have a hard time getting over initially was how similar it was to a lot of other online internet games on PC and how bored the world seemed to appear, even though the graphics makes up for that. I would recommend this game to everyone, but I am sure this game does not appeal to everyone, but maybe a select few.

Knight Age can be slow at times, but once it starts, it is extra fast and a cartoon thriller from start to finish. Knight Age Online branched out and actually put a lot of effort into their graphics and design department as most games not only look like this online, but games background designs far exceed almost any game I have ever seen on pc online gaming world.

This game has four different characters, The Knight, The Archer, The Magician, and The Warrior and they all bring something different to the game. The Knight likes to use the fancy weapons like different kinds of knives and things of that sort, while The Archer loves to bow his arrow.

The magician name speaks for itself as the magician makes everything disappear from the game that the user is presently in from afar and The Warrior is just a warrior who is eerily similar to the Knight in this game. Their characters are sort of the same, with just different move sets and capability, not to mention The Knight power meter goes down way slower than the Warriors, which is what anyone playing this game has to b on the lookout for.

I would recommend this game to everyone I know and I would also give this game 4 out of 5 stars in the meantime.

The Contra code is ingrained into the brains of every gamer who grew up in the 80s. Up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A, Start. 30 lives. I can recite that shit in my sleep, yo.

I’ve heard several variations of it through the years. Some of my schoolyard friends would hit the B, A part twice; some would hit Select before hitting Start. It seemed like all of these variations still somehow worked.

Now, I acknowledge that I’m not being completely fair in my use of the terminology here.

See, the phrase “Contra Code” is kind of a misnomer. More accurately, this was called the Konami Code, since Konami used it in a whole slew of games since the NES era. By doing a quick Google search, you’ll find that instances of it being called the “Konami code” seem to drastically outnumber the alternate terminology. Still, “Contra code” is what we called in on the playground in my small hometown, and it’s a popular enough phrase that there’s a punk band in Vancouver that took it as their band name.

The code original turned up in the game Gradius, where entering it when the game was paused gave you a slew of power-ups. So why did we not call it the “Gradius code?” I really don’t know. I assume it’s because Contra was so ball-blistering hard that the game was damn near unplayable without the 30 lives granted by the code. Entering that code was just understood as a part of playing Contra.

In the decades since, the code has just become a part of gaming culture. It’s shown up in an enormous list of games (here’s Wikipedia’s list, in case you don’t believe me), and it’s a common Easter egg that results in strange behavior across a myriad of websites.

There’s a part of me that has always wondered why Konami was so insistent to keep re-using the same code  when there are so many other button combinations to use. Another part of me just delights in the fact that they showed some consistency. It’s weirdly charming.

Either way, the Contra code — or Konami code — is just a thing that gamers almost instinctively know and understand, and I’m happy it’s a tiny little piece of gaming culture’s esoteric language.

It's almost surreal if you really stop to think about it. We've been waiting for a new Max Payne game since Fall of Max Payne, which if I recall correctly was all the way back in 2003. And all those nine years later, this game shows up. To say it's a step above what we had with the series before would be a textbook understatement. To say it's the best Max Payne game yet - well, obviously that's up for debate, but for me this is a foregone conclusion. Then again, it isn't exactly fair, as the new release has several generations of technology separating it from the previous entries, not to mention a lot of

On PC, Max Payne 3 is a proper DX11 product, although it does suffer from that annoying tendency to have the in-engine cutscenes look a lot worse than the game proper. At any rate, if you like handsome graphics, this may not be the pack leader per se, but it's a decidedly nice-looking game with some 

The options are not super-detailed, but give enough control over your experience to make it clear you're playing this on PC rather than console. The one thing that did bother me is that you can't get to the options screen when starting the game as far as I could tell, as you are basically forced to sit through the opening cinematic. You also have to sign up for Rockstar's Social Club in order to activate and play Max Payne 3. This gives us access to very detailed stats and of course the more in-depth aspects of the multiplayer, but does require one more password to remember, handing over your details, etc. etc. Rockstar games were awesome before without asking us to do this, and I'm not entirely sure it's necessary now.
Free Online Games, 

In the build up to the launch over the last year or so, somewhat of a debate arose whether or not this is a legitimate Max Payne title. If the dark streets of NYC are nowhere to be seen, and if there's no snow or rain, then surely it's not Max Payne? I think anyone who sees it like that is quite wrong, and I've already stated my assertion that to me this is the finest release in the franchise. First of all, the writing is good, with sarcastic/deadpan delivery coming in thick and fast. And you know it's Max Payne alright when you hear that good old mob-movie music playing over the title screen. In case you were worried, James McCaffrey is back as the voice (and in some cases the motion captured-person) of Max Payne, and he sounds just like he did back in the first two 

There are plenty of characters about, all of them very well done with superb capture and voice acting. You will soon come to like your partner Raul Passos (performed by Julian Dean), and many of the the other characters. Since Max finds himself primarily in Sao Paolo this time, it's quite commendable that supporting and background characters do speak Portuguese, although overall the major dialog does go to English. The story is told "live" rather than via graphic novel style, and Max doesn't sound like a poet anymore - he talks like a real person instead of going on about rain pouring from the skies like sheets of lead, a damp cold chill descending on my soul. Well, that may not be an accurate quote but you know what I mean.

Continued on page 2. I don't want to give the story away and I only did play the first two hours or so, but suffice it to say Max has seen better days. He's still the same ascerbic character, but has more depth and emotion now, getting drunk, smoking, even openly crying right in front of us. To say he's down on his luck would not be accurate - Max is definitely in his element here. But the years have taken their toll on him. For anyone who's never played the first two games, the story won't be a problem. You can hop in and enjoy it on its own, though many of the references will be lost on you. Come to think of it, it's not made immediately clear why Max ended up in Brazil, but I'm guessing that exposition comes later in the story.

As far as action goes, this is basically a mix between classic Max Payne and your typical third-person cover shooter. Bullet time is back, and can be activated either on its own or by going into one of Max's bullet opera dives. The world is riddled with convenient stuff to take cover behind, which I'm sure many purists may find quite annoying. I mean, Max needs a cover mechanic? Personally I think he does, as this is a tough game. Even on normal, you get blown away by the many hundreds of opponets often. They are more bullet-spongy than the baddies in the first two titles, which can be odd at times

As a whole, cover and aiming work well, but can be a tad too sticky and slightly inconsistent at times. There's more variety to the settings, sniping from a helicopter, and lots of shaky cam, making Max Payne 3 somewhat reminiscent of Kane and Lynch 2, which is ironic because the latter was essentially an 


You should definitely get back on the Payne train for this one. Shooter fans will love it for the non-stop action, story fans will get into the clever writing, and long-standing Max supporters will find a much more meaningful character to like. Haven't tried the multiplayer yet, but I hear it's quite alright, making this a very full package, which on PC clocks in at almost 30GB. I believe Rockstar have delivered the goods with this highly anticipated release, but do let us know what you think! Which quickly devolves into a shoot-out!

Even worse, at one point you have to play as her when she's separated from her badass bodyguard. All of Leon's sweet guns are replaced with the ability to hide, jog, and throw a lantern. Unless, that is, you're able to knock a zombie to his knees with a well-placed door to the face, at which point this stereotypical damsel in distress can bear hug that undead motherfucker and suplex him into the ground so hard his head pops open like a Gallagher outtake.

Hell yeah! That's the kind of secret service training we want to see! Sadly the move, which is only supposed to be accessible to Leon, was taken away from Ashley in later releases, as the developers figured that the president's sheltered, teenage daughter taking zombies to Suplex City was kind of an immersion breaker.
